Insulin and new brain cells

The Alzheimer's Society are seeking funding for research on use of a drug, presently used to treat diabetes, that may well hold out hope for treating Alzheimer's Disease.

Liraglutide has been tested in the laboratory and it has been discovered that it may well act on the changes in the brain and not merely treating the symptoms of Alzheimer's as other current drugs do.

Now the time has come to carry out trials on sufferers from Alzheimer's Disease, using brain scans and psychological tests.

It has already been approved for use as a drug for Diabetes thus speeding up its possible use in Alzheimer's Disease.
