Rhymes and rhythms

In Living with Dementia the Alzheimer's Society recommend holding poetry reading groups for those with any form of dementia. It appears they can identify more easily with rhymes than prose or narrative. It often sparks off a memory of lines they learnt at an early age and they readily join in to complete the poem.

Some care homes have started such groups with really good results. They are assisted in this by the Reader Organisation who can be contacted via www.thereader.org.uk or e-mail info@thereader.org.uk.
