Some older folk have astounding memories. Why?

Attempts are being made to uncover why it is that some older people, even in their 80's, can remember so much more than others even younger than themselves.

It appears that the cortex on the outer edge of the brain and responsible for attention, is so much thicker. What causes this is the now the subject of research. This may well contribute to understanding how to ward off Altzheimer's disease.

Perhaps paying close attention flows from the level of curiosity present. This could be encouraged by what is known as 'Mindfulness', being vitally aware of all that is around and in us.
