Heartburn drugs put bones at risk
According to 'Physio findings' in Frontline ( CSP journal ) it would be wise to warn patients who are taking medication for indigestion that it may compromise bone health.
Research seems to point to a reduction in calcium absorbtion in those who take medication to reduce indigestion discomfort. It is now thought to add a risk of fracture in 1 out of 2000 women. It would be as well to suggest they consult their GP.
